Pair With Block

this painting started out last night as a demo for a new class... finished it today. used a different kind of halogen light, has a wider dispersion, I like the effect.

Another Tang Horse

this is the second version of this subject. yesterday I also painted this horse... but last night I decided it didn't work at all, so I scraped it. took it on again this morning... 5 hours later... got to this. quite a challenge... subtle colors in the horse...

Blue Teapot

trying some new sizes... halogen light, knife.... pushed the color a little lighter today... experimenting with finding an optimal level of richness in the paintings. this one went quick, maybe the fastest... it just flowed, nice when that happens.

Glass Study

halogen light and knife... I guess I don't need to keep saying "knife" since they're all done with that. I was thinking I'd be using brushes but I'm enjoying the knife too much. had dinner with friends last night and noticed the glass cup holding my tea... wanted to paint it... so today I did.

Bronze Tang Horse

went back to the halogen light... amazing how now the color of the light seems even warmer and brighter than before I did yesterday's painting in natural light. quite a difference. interesting experience as I started today, starting having tears... fealing so grateful for this process.

Chinese Vase & Flowers

this is yesterday's painting... decided to do a study without the halogen light and worked just from window light. had to work faster as it doesn't stay the same that long. this opened my vision more to see the difference between the color in natural light in the studio and halogen.

Tang Horse

this was pretty magical... happened pretty quickly. I love tang horses, have a few... this one inspired me today. I continue to learn so much about color, every day something new is opening up.... so grateful I'm doing this. it's endless, what there is to learn about color, always new, always more to see... what a deal!

Bottle and Brass

very fun today... the photo is off a bit; I'll shoot it again tomorrow in better light. pretty accurate though. I'm now very interested in working with subjects of subdued color. I've always been attracted to bright saturated colors... that seems to be changing. Give me the somber colors!!

Teapot and Cup Again

this was yesterday's painting... Tuesday. no time to post. had so much fun with the last teapot and cup that I decided to explore it again on a different backround.

Teapot and Cup

I'm learning a lot about dulling color without adding too much white... the effect is way more powerful in conveying light. this was very fun and painted fairly fast, three hours. halogen light and knife...

Lemon's Back

worked quite awhile on this one, about 8 hours. used halogen light and painted with a knife. it was fascinating working the color relationships... so much to see!

Yep, They're Plastic

today's painting... I'm very much enjoying painting peppers, what great shapes.
learning more about the color relationships of light planes to shadow planes. it's endless...

Stripes and Fruit

yesterday's painting... maybe the most fun yet... halogen light, knife
Pushed myself to use color more and to rely on value difference less. Trying to bring more luminosity to shadow planes.

Wooden Elephant

first time I've painted on such a small board in a long, long time... not sure if I like working that small, can't move around so freely... I think I'll stay with at least 8x10. did this lit with halogen and painted with brush, a touch of knife at the end. I'm preferring the knife lately, let's me more easily adjust the color...

Two Apples & A Pepper

actually did this yesterday, the 7th, couldn't upload as my internet was down. did this with brush and knife, lit by halogen light. had a great time and learned a lot about color relationships.

Grapes Orange

painted this with brush on panel, halogen light. got to this later today so had to take the picture after the sun went down... the color's not quite right. i'll take another shot tomorrow and update it. this project is getting more and more fun and inspiring. there is tremendous power in committing to the creative process!

Teapot and Lemon

ok, this was really painted today, again, used a halogen spotlight in studio. looks like a lemon theme is evolving... we'll see what tomorrow brings.
